Bye Bye Angels

So messing around with my DVR and I noticed that this week's Charlie's Angels did not record.  So I went into my settings and saw that no more episodes were scheduled to be recorded.  Did the Angels get cancelled?  After confirmation with several sites, yes they were.  In fact 5 of the new shows of the 2011/2012 season have been dropped including:

Free Agents (NBC)
HBR (CW)
How To Be A Gentleman (CBS)
The Playboy Club (NBC)

and of course Charlie's Angels on ABC.

Bummer.  And I really liked that show, too.  Oh well.

Good luck to the other shows.

Brain Dead Donkey in the Middle of the Desert

So we decided to check out the Change-Up with Reynolds, Bateman, Mann and Wilde.  It was a very good and funny film.  Showing the usual world of a single man & a married man and how their lives can be effected when they switch.  Some would think Ryan Reynolds would have stolen the show, but it was actually Jason Bateman in my opinion.  The only issue I had with this flick was that it seemed like they half-assed the post-production.  Just thought there were some obvious errors.

All and all I felt this movie was good, but not as well as Horrible Bosses.  Check it out in theaters if you wish, but it may be more worthy to see later for rental.  Ok movie.

Grade: C+

Fonduing

So I went with some friends to check out the First Avenger last night.  It was very well done and entertaining.  I'll admit that having Chris Evans play 2 Marvel characters (The Human Torch was the other), but I feel he did a great job as the Captain.  Tommy Lee Jones stole the show in my opinion. He was very funny in a dry humor kind of way.  Hugo Weaving also did great as the Red Skull.  I never new that much about Captain America, but I learned a lot from just this movie.

I am very excited about the upcoming Avengers film in May 2012.  It should be great!  I also heard that there will be new Iron Man movie coming out which kind of confuses me, but oh well.

Check out Captain America in theaters!

Snarf, Snarf!

Okay.  I am seriously geeking out.  Three networks are making remakes of cartoons I grew up on.  Three of these cartoons really caught my attention.

First The HUB, a new network, release two remakes, Transformers Prime and G. I. Joe Renegades.  This was followed up by NickToons releasing Voltron Force.  Now I checked out the series premiere of ThunderCats on Cartoon Network.  Pretty sweet.  I am pretty impress mainly because they are doing a great job with each series.  I am glad.

Check them out.

BSP

So, I attended this high school called Washington in Milwaukee and I had this friend named Matt.  After high school (not sure much after), he created a comedy group with Aaron Yonda called Blame Society (I hope I'm telling this right).  You should remember these dudes as they created Chad Vader, which was rated top ten internet video series in.........I can't remember the year.  Since then they have create other series, like Beer and Board games and Ask An Expert.

Ask An Expert started with Hal Thompson and now has turned into a panel including, Dr. Moley, Baby Cookie (my favorite panelist), Thor (not sure about that one) and Ernesto, who I believe is either Matt or Aaron's Cat.  Here is a video featuring Ernesto:

I definitely enjoy you guys work.  Keep it up!

FWB

We decided to check out Friends with Benefits tonight and it was great.  Timberlake and Kunis was hilarious.  They had a pretty nice chemistry in the film, although I doubt they do another one together.  Jenna Elfman is also in the film and I thought the reference they made to her previous works were pretty funny.  The flash mob deal was a bit much, but kept the cheesiness of the Rom Com.  Harrelson and Clarkson was especially funny in their own twisted ways.

This film is alright to check out, but don't have to rush to the theater to see it.

I give it a B.

MF Jones

We just checked out Horrible Bosses and man it was hilarious.  Starring Jason Bateman (Arrested Development), Charlie Day (It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia) and Jason Sudekis (Saturday Night Live) these guys made this movie almost more funny than Hangover and Bridesmaids.

The actual horrible bosses were played by Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston & Colin Ferrell and my favorite was Aniston.  I feel Sudekis definitely ran this movie with his asshole like ways as a comedian.  The cameos by Jamie Foxx and Ron White were also great.

This definitely a great film to check out in theaters or later.

Check It Out!

The Cool Weapons

So went out to check out Transformers 3 in IMAX 3D.  May I start in saying that Cinemark 17 & IMAX in North Dallas, TX is very boo now?  It is too cramped and hot.  I am done with that location.  The staff is none to nice either.  I am ready to try AMC's IMAX screens.  Also, wanting to check out Colleyville Cinema + Grille.

Ok.  Back on track.  Transformers: Dark of the Moon was very well done.  It was a bit too long, but the action and storyline was great.  It was cool to hear Leonard Nimoy (Star Trek) as Sentinal Prime (A Transformer I never heard of until yesterday).  They also broaden their cast some including all-stars like John Malkovich (Red), Ken Jeong (The Hangover - he's still doing gangsta boy), Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy) and Frances McDormand (Fargo).  Nice work Bay and Spielberg.

As for the Transformers themselves, the debut of Laserbeak was awesome.  Didn't know he was a chameleon, but was very effective as an assassin.  Also the debut of Shockwave and his "little" pet was pretty awesome (As Lennox points out, "Why do they have the cool weapons?").  Kind of wish Ravage would have came back.  :-(

Even though Hugo Weaving did a great job as Megatron, I really wish Frank Welker (the original voice) would have kept doing it.  Oh well, Welker was busy enough voicing both Soundwave and Shockwave.  Also, why could they use the autotune voice for Soundwave?  That was one of the best parts of Transformers.

Overall the movie was great.  *SPOILER ALERT* Very sad to see 5 of the major Decepticons fall, but I guess the series has to end somehow.  Or did it?

Go check it out!  I give this an A.  Again, nice work Bay and Spielberg.

Dark Anime

So while taking a break from studying, I just checked out a new anime just released on Adult Swim called,  "Duarara!!".  I'm trying to take it in and it may take a while.  Kind of like Death Note, which turned out to be really good.

From he same production company who brought Fullmetal Alchemist and Rurouni Kenshin, Amniplex brings a dark anime that takes place in Modern Tokyo (or Kyoto).  Looks like it follow the life of some kids, a Russian sushi worker, some bad new people and a headless motorcyclist.

It seems a bid fascinating and I will continue to check it out.  More later.

Until then...............

Mint

Just checked out Super 8.  I will admit I was not initially interested in this movie.  Had a tough time figuring out what it could be about.  Given that the movie was written and directed by J.J. Abrams and Spielberg was involved, it could be about anything. The only thing that got me wanting to see this film was because of J.J.  I have been a fan of his work since Alias.  I watched and love the shows Lost & Fringe and I even enjoyed Undercovers until NBC decided to drop it.

The film was pretty good.  I would say it was intense and comical (The one blond kid was especially funny).  People say it was like Goonies.  I failed to see that comparison.  Even though the film kept my attention during my zoned out state, the main thing that kept going through my mind was, "What does the title have to do with what's going on?"  That was answered later on.

Pretty much I would say this film was ok.  It was good that didn't over hype it.  That would probably make the movie a bit disappointing.  The soundtrack was pretty cool though.

I give it a B-/C+.  Typical film working with Spielberg.

Burn Notice and Wipeout Returns!

So the summer is here and it is time for the networks to release their previous summer hits and try some new shows.  With my limited schedule I will only take in 3 season premieres and 3 series premieres.  The new seasons include Louie, Wipeout and my favorite show, Burn Notice.

Louie fell last summer from my DVR due to limited time (as usual), but I decided to give it a second chance.  Now missed a season and usually I would not try the show again, but I'll try.  No promises.

Wipeout also returns after playing half of the 2010-2011 season with Winter and Spring versions, which in my opinion was very enteraining.  Hope they continue it.  Now the main summer show is back and looks even more challenging than before.

As for my new #1 show on my favorite network, Burn Notice returns and I'm sure with great new missions/jobs.  This show will never be dropped from my DVR.

New series include Expedition Impossible from the makers of Wipeout.  The host, on an interview, says this show is more extreme than The Amazing Race.  We shall see.

USA's new show Suits also starts this week.  It seems like it will be an interesting show as it features a kid who is a prodigy and says he is able to do court cases with out a degree.

The final series is Wilfred on FX.  This show stars Elijah Wood (Lord Of The Rings Trilogy) as a guy who sometimes watches a dog who happens to be a guy in a dog suit or at least that's how I take it so far.  It seems disturbing, yet intriguing.  I'm not sure how I'll feel about this show, but I'll give it a try.

I don't for see holding on to all these shows, but it will be fun to see how they go.

Two Brothers, Courtney and the Black Swan

So after a long time we went to check out Mark's pick for his birthday movie, Your Highness. Oh my goodness, this was a hilarious film. Can I just say I love Natalie Portman. For someone who just won an oscar, pull something like this off is impressive. The main stars of this film are Danny McBride and James Franco where if anyone remembers also starred in Pinapple Express.

This movie was a serious trip. If you guys know the work of Danny McBride you would know what I mean. There were some very nice surprises in this film, including Damien Lewis (Life - TV Series & Dreamcatcher). It has been a while since I saw him in the show Life before NBC decided to cancel a potential great series. Charles Dance was the other surprise. If you don't remember this guy, he played Sardo Numspa, the demon in The Golden Child with Eddie Murphy. He was also in Alien 3 and Last Action Hero.

This film is one I definately recommend this movie in the theaters, forever how long it survives. I say this because it is being rushed out because of the upcoming summer "hits".

Great Movie!

Your Highness - B+

Early Spring Cleaning

It's about that time for me to determine what shows I want to hold on to in my DVR and which ones have got to go. There will be a few on the bubble, but I don't forsee a lot there.

With schooling demanding more of my wime and of course housework requiring more attention, I need to see which shows I can use to sacrifice. I just have too much and won't be able to watch it all. So here it goes:

Dropped Shows:
30 Rock, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, How I Met Your Mother, Kekkaishi, Minute To Win It, Portlandia, Rizzoli & Isles, Running Wilde, Stargate Universe, and The Cape

Bubble Shows:
Bob's Burgers, Chuck, Community, Human Target, Law & Order: UK, No Ordinary Family, Parks And Recreation, Sanctuary, Tosh.0 and Traffic Light

Kepper shows:
American Dad, AFV, Archer, Being Human, Bleach, Burn Notice, Castle, Comedy Central Presents, Family Guy, Fringe, Hawaii 5-0, Jeopardy, Law & Order: LA, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Naruto: Shippuden, NCIS, NCIS: LA, Ninja Warrior, NOVA, ONN, Onion SportsDome, Robot Chicken, SNL, South Park, Star Wars: Clone Wars, The Cleveland Show, The Colbert Report, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Transformers Prime, White Collar, Wipeout and Young Justice.

I know I still have a lot of shows, and I will eliminate more, but that all for now.

Until next time.
