Friday Fall '15 Premiere Reviews Part One

CBS
The race is back with the least more annoying host, Phil Keoghan.  11 new teams come on to the fold to race around the world and try to achieve one million dollars.  There are some interesting teams on the show, but one really stood out with this guy, who created his own version of The Amazing Race and became a YouTube sensation, breaks down when he messes up on a not so critical part of the game.  Basically his team failed to get the express pass and started to fall towards the back of the pack.  He cries uncontrollably and looked like a baby.  They actually managed to make it to the next leg.  Anyway, the first episode was ok and I see the rest of the season to turn out even better.  Looking forward to it on my favorite reality competition show.

CBS
So I am happy to report that this show has made it to another season and has broken the Chi Curse (knock on wood).  This is not a common term because I made it up myself.  See, I actually love the actor Chi McBride ever since I saw him on David E. Kelley's Boston Public.  After this show, anything else I saw him in has suffered a fate of not making it to a new season.  The first was Pushing Daisies, an awesome show that should have never been cancelled even after winning awards, but I think no one could follow the concept and it probably was ahead of its time.  The next was Human Target with Mark Valley and Jackie Early Haley.  This show did start a second season, but only made it a couple episodes into the season.  Now, a couple of seasons ago, he joins one of my newest classic remakes, Hawaii Five-0.  It is now in it's sixth season and is (along with Chi) running strong.  I am actually very happy the show is doing well and he is still in it.  The show has so far overcame 2 curses (knock on wood, again).  This premiere episode was great and intense.  The season should prove exciting.

ABC
Mike, the big conservative business owner, who caters very strong to a stereotypical base.  I have never did a regular review about this show.  Now knowing or understanding the premise, I jumped into this show last season (Season 4) basically because I loved to see Tim Allen back on TV.  I watched Home Improvement religiously and loved every minute of it.  I also followed his early stand up career.  He may seemed like a pompous ass, but he was hilarious as hell.  After a few episode, I got a better understanding of the show and even though it may throw me, I have decided to stick with it.  The start of the season was just ok.  I don't know why they use so much CGI or bad effects and why in the hell do they do a lot of superimposing.  You think these would turn me off of the show, but I still enjoy the comedy.  It shows the serious battles of the extremes, politically, and shows how at times, people can work together.  You see that CONGRESS??!!!  So, I will stay with the show.  Looks like they will have to do a lot to lose me.
Status: Keep     Grade 6.5/10

P.S. ABC!  That was crap you cancelled Cristela!  That show was great!  I know some cheese was present, but I know cheese is good for a sitcom.  I know you will say it's rating and I may have a thought on that, but I will not go there.  Think about it.  Alright, I will stop my rant there.

Thursday Fall '15 Premieres Part One

NBC
I will admit I started this show with major reservations.  The previews about the show weren't completely selling to me, even though one of my favorite celebrities, Wesley Snipes, is in it.  Ok.  A former FBI agent turn security consultant is placed on assignment to do his job when he realized there was way more going on than he first though including a new faction that new everything that was going on and when the next thing was going to happen.  Now I know, "If they are so powerful and resourceful , why don't they just handle it themselves?".  Well they needed one more factor that will help them achieve their goals, the player.  So this faction, called The House, so far only has 2 people; The Pit Boss (Wesley Snipes) and the Dealer (Charity Wakefield).  They only need one key person to handle the field called The Player.  Alex Kane (Philip Winchester) is the former agent who ends up forcibly auditioning for the role by doing everything The House tells him.  While he is doing that, bets are made by whales (Rich Gamblers) around the world bet on the outcome.  The action ensues and things get very dicey.  Not is he working hard to solve or prevent a crime, he has to deal with the local police.  In my opinion, this show turned out to be very entertaining and keep me glued to the screen.  I was worried it was going to turn out like Fastlane (Bill Bellamy, Peter Facinelli and Tiffany Thiessen), which turn into trying to be more sexy than interesting.  No, it turn out to be interesting for sure.  I am not sure how far it will go, but I will keep watching until then.  Update on this by the end of fall season.

NBC
So it is back.  Like The Player, I have major reservations about this show, especially it's return.  Before it was a major phenomenon, but like most phenomenon (Lost, Alias, X-Files, etc.) they tend to fade out quickly because they start to run out of story to keep it going or interesting.  The premiere episode was good.  Noah Bennett (Jack Coleman), of course, is the major force in the storyline, trying to find and figure out everything that is going on.  More of what they call, evos are springing up everywhere and as usual, they are being hunted.  Like the previous show, there are a few that are being showcased and we, for sure, will be following their stories.  It is slow at times with some action here and there and the vagueness is still running strong.  I am a little worried, but hopeful.  I loved this series before and hope they do better to keep it running longer than before.  If you have reservations, just check out the premiere and them make your decision there.  Enjoy.

Wednesday Fall '15 Premieres Part One

CBS
Season 31.  The new premise is simply fans chose participants from previous season to get a second chance at the grand prize.  Even those who participated in last spring's season.  They were announced at last season's live finale and they immediately left for Cambodia.  Back to two teams battling out to see who can outwit, outplay and out last everyone else.  Can I say that the more seasons I watch the show, the more annoying Jeff has become.  Does he have to narrate every challenge?  Does he have to be so loud?  He has become so commanding it has been working on my nerves.  This is one of the reasons why The Amazing Race (hail Bruckheimer) has become my favorite reality competition show.  Ok, so as usual I am looking forward to this season.  Other than listening to Jeff (Man, I wish I can mute him) it should be fun.  If I ever stop watching this show, it will probably be because of him.  I know.  Very angry, but it is true.

ABC
The crazy and somewhat dysfunctional family is back.  The season premiere of one of my top ten current favorite sitcoms was as funny as the rest.  Mitchell freaks out from not having a job, Jay and Gloria seeks out a school for their youngest child and the Dunphys works on issues of the heart.  As usual, chaos ensues and realizations are made.  It was a great start to the new season.  Not much more to talk about without spoilers.  Enjoy!!!

ABC
The Johnson family takes on a new dilemma as something was used that the family and the school was not expecting.  As they all work to address and try to fix the issue, a lot of conflictions, contradictions, hypocrisies, double standards and what have you were thrown in and it was very disappointing.  I have never laugh and got angry at the same time like that before (as far as I remember).  It is good to see Lawrence Fishburne and Jeninfer Lewis on the show.  Hopefully they will make more appearances during the season.  Like I said about Fresh Off The Boat, I am looking forward to a full season of this show.  Knock on wood, congratulations to Anthony Anderson on making to a second season on a show.  Guys With Kids, Law And Order and K-Ville were really good shows and should have continued on, but the networks said otherwise.  Stupid rating system.

FOX
Morris Chestnut returns to network TV after Nurse Jackie.  Yes, this is a new TV show and not a continuation of the movie starring Jon Voight and Ving Rhames.  Chestnut plays Rosewood, a Pathologist Consultant, who has a tendency to go head first into cases and annoy the Miami Metro PD.  The detective he ends up working with is Annalise Villa, played by Jania Lee Ortiz (Laid Out and The After).  She shows some tremendous skill in detective work and hand-in-hand combat.  It was very impressive.  I don't know how much more they will show, but I am looking forward to it.  Chestnut continues to play these confident, boarding on arrogant, playboy type characters that can become annoying, but later shows that he can be funny and impressive at times.  Anthony Michael Hall guest starred which made me sad because I have always loved when he was working.   We shall see if he will become re-occurring.  I was excited to see Lorraine Toussaint (The Fosters, Forever & Orange Is The New Black) in the show and she is permanent.  This could turn into a good show as long as they continue to have fresh material.  Take a peek.

NBC
The 1st Spin-Off of my all-time television franchises is back for it's 17th season.  They have lost an actor/detective, Danny Pino, from last season.  Benson is still leading her precinct and is running it tight.  This premiere was extremely intriguing as they work with a past serial killer to figure our murders found after his imprisonment.  It leads them to someone on the inside and chaos ensues.  In the midst of this, a new discovery is made shortly after a loss was found, which could slightly compromise the precinct and possibly the show.  This 2 hour premiere was great!  Probably one of the best episodes I have ever seen.  I have always enjoyed working through the investigations with the show as for the most part I am spot on.  I don't think this show will ever disappoint, except for the occasional addition or even more so subtraction of a character.  Oh, and I forgot to mention how I still enjoy seeing Tamara Tunie as she continues with her re-occurring character.  She was part of the primary cast, but them was pushed back for some reason.  Oh well.  That's live or television I guess.  Law and Order fans, stay with this one and NBC, please don't ever shift this show from Wednesday nights.  Change the time, I don't care, but that night is working and there is no reason to move it.  Like you did with CI and the Original Series.  They are proof that moving nights of any show, no matter how big it is, is a very possible death sentence.  A move to Fridays are usually an uh oh, except for some reason, it is working for CBS as The Amazing Race, Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods (originally a summer show) are thriving very well.

Tuesday Fall '15 Premiers Part One

ABC
The hip Taiwanese family is back.  The three kiddos are still the same and the parents are the same as usual.  They take on a final venture to finish out the summer.  Louis tries to go at it alone, but Jessica figures it out and make it a family event.  Grandma Huang was pretty hilarious and the episode was as fun as the others.  Looking forward to a full season this time.

Another TV continuation of a movie.  This time it includes a cameo from the movie's star, Bradley Cooper.  Now this is odd because I have never seen the movie, even though I know the premise pretty well.  I will eventually see the movie, but in the meantime on with the show.  A new guy, Brian Finch takes on the NTZ drug and with the help of Cooper's character, he has an unlimited supply.  It is curious on how this works while he creates an interesting relationship with a FBI agent.  Looks like continuous crime drama.  Starring Jake McDorman (American Sniper) and Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter).

Monday Fall '15 Premieres Part One

FOX
So a new attempt to make a TV continuation is a scary, but it is ok to still try I guess.  Fox brings out the Minority Report to continue the great Sci-Fi flick after Precrime was shut down.  Dash decides to escape isolation and attempts to save the murders he continue to foresee without the assistance of Agatha or his twin brother, Arthur.  He is unsuccessful and decides to seek the assistance of an expert detective who works for the department that was formerly Precrime.  The premise is pretty obvious and it does have great potential.  I hope it does not end up like Almost Human, which also had a great premise, but could not keep the ratings.  It is a great show to see.

NBC
Now this is one of the newest shows I was very excited about.  So you're in NYC's Time Square and you see a duffle bad sitting by its lonesome and you had to call the bomb squad to inspect.  They find a naked woman emerge with tattoos all over her body.  Later a star FBI agent, Kurt Weller, is called in strictly because his name is tattooed on her back.  He later determines that they are clues or more so, a map.  That is a premise that if you have not seen the many previews and sneak peeks that explain it, you know now.  She starts off with pretty much a blank slate, but eventually things start to come back to her.  Skills she would have never dreamed of would come about and it's pretty amazing.  This show, to me, seems like The Blacklist, but with king of a different approach.  It will be interesting to see where it goes.  Check it out, if you haven't already.

ABC
Season Eight of Nathan and the cast of Castle.  This season starts of in a way never seen before.  It was so huge that it had to move into a second episode.  A lot has changed at the precinct, promotions were made, but something wicked has happened that caused Beckett to act in the most unusual way.  There isn't anymore I can revial, but this premiere was very intriguing.  If you are a fan of the show, keep watching.  If not, but interested, don't unless you have time to binge the previous seasons.

FOX
Rise of the Villains is what they are calling this season.  New alliances are made.  People start to crack.  Arkham Asylum is showcased.  Fish Mooney is gone.  I will say that I am really confused with the character, Barbara Kline.  I must have missed something in DC lore.  Anyways, this season is starting out pretty strong.  Bad things happened to Detectives Gordon and Bullock and then with a very unusual truce, not only did he received redemption, but so much more.  It was a great premiere and should be a very promising season.  Interest seriously peaked.

CBS
Oh my lord.  What is this show?  An all star cast family goes through their lives doing some of the crazy, unusual things, but then again, these things were probably everyday life.  Who knows?  Either way these situations were beyond kooky.  I was just interested in this show mostly of the cast including; Colin Hanks, Jordan Peele, Betsy Brandt, Dan Bakkedahl and Diane Wiest .  It looks like a cross between Arrested Development and Modern Family.  Worth taking a peak.  Looks like fun.  If this show does not make it, I would not blame the cast.  Probably more so the writing.  The cast for sure won't be able to save the show.  It should last for a while though.

Early Fall '15 Premiere Reviews

AMC
Well this was a long time anticipated show.  The spin off from the epic AMC show about the post-apocalyptic zombie world starts off pre and during the apocalypse.  Out in Los Angeles, a few families start to see the early signs of the walkers come about and they, along with the military, figure out to survive the evitable doom.  The first season, like The Walking Dead, is only 6 episodes long.  Just short enough for you take in and understand the premise of the show (if you haven't gathered that from it's predecessor).  If you are a Dead fan, I of course highly recommend you check this out.

HULU
The show dropped by Fox and, by popular demand, saved by Hulu returns with a fourth season and man did it return big.  First episode starts off by really throwing you off.  Let's say they use a scientific theory to show you what else goes on in the mind of Dr. Mindy Laheri.  I am very happy that Hulu decided to take on this show showing how truly valuable and enjoyable this show truly is.  Now if you are some of those people who do hate the show or at least Mindy Kaling, then I'm sorry.............for you.  For those who have never seen this show, it is worth checking out and letting it grow on you (that is what it took for me).  Looking forward for a great season, that now on a streaming service will peobably be only 10 to 13 episodes.

Enjoy.

HULU
Another Hulu Original Show except it is truly original, which BTW, TANGENT, Hulu, Netflix, Yahoo and probably Amazon, if you save a show from the clutches of being cancelled by the networks I feel they are not you original, but they do become your show.  Just my thought, but you do you.  Ok.  3rd season of the Awesome, like the previous season is turning out to be................very good (HA!).  I really enjoy this show and it should just keep going until they run out of ideas, which should be a long time coming.  If you haven't, check out this series.  It is a great spoof on super heroes and I know there are a few of them out there.

CBS
The prodigy turned late night genius is back accepting the baton from the great David Letterman.  When he accepted this gig I wondered how he would conduct the show and if he would keep the faux conservative pundit or just be his crazy self.  Well the pundit is somewhat gone, but I think you csn see a little bit of the character on the show.  Now like all other current late night talk shows, I will only be watching highlights on YouTube.  I feel he is going a great job so far.  I should not have had any wonders or doubts because he has more than proven himself on Comedy Central and CBS just don't pick anyone.  They, like a lot of the networks carefully choose their hosts.  So check it out, even if it is just the highlights.  You should not be disappointed.  I will say that the band director will have to grow on me.

COMEDY CENTRAL
Yes sir, the boys are back.  I will admit I was pretty worried that this show may not come back.  The reason is because I notice they didn't drop any new episodes for more than 6 months.  I was like, "What the hell?!!", but then in late spring, the announcement was made that they signed two more seasons with Comedy Central and will return in September '15.  So excited was I.  The season premiere was outstanding, of course hitting on various issues and Stan's father stupidly got involved in some shenanigans.  Cartman, as usual, was the center of the topic and he still figures out a way to get out on top.  Great premiere and am looking forward to the new season.

COMEDY CENTRAL
So I had never heard of this show until it was mentioned on a favorite podcast a day before the South Park season premiere.  What finally drew me to it is that Rob Lowe, Elizabeth Banks and Will Forte will be voice actors on the show.  So I checked it out on Comedy Central's website and I was wonderfully surprised.  Ths show has the crazy feel of most of the newer shows on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.  It constantly keep me laughing and kept my attention.  It take a good deal of immaturity to stay into this show.  Not for the very serious person.  So if you like most shows on Adult Swim, you should love this one.  Airs on Wednesday nights after South Park.

Ok.  This review may not be as awesome as the previous ones.  So recent I have been losing my patience with certain variety shows.  There are some I absolutely love like SNL and Who's Line Is It Anyway, then others like America's Got Talent and I Can Do That (or whatever it's called) drives me crazy.to the point I want them cancelled.  Now there is Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris.  I was very hesitant in trying this one out, but then I said, "If I am going to do reviews, I should checkout as much as I can."  and time allows that.  So I did and I will say this, the show is actually pretty good.  Fun, entertaining and maintains attention.  I definitely falls into the current styles of Mr. Harris and I hope he keeps it going.  As for me watching it, I will place this show into my category of white noise meaning if I have nothing else and I am in the mood for something like this I will probably check out the current episode.  I will not go into my device's queue.

CW SEED
The newest addition to the CW (and dear I say it DC) network.   I know Gotham is DC and it is on Fox along with Supergirl on CBS, but come on,  CW has pretty much become the DC Universe home.  You can actually see this show on CW's Seed website and mobile app.  She starts off with an encounter with Arrow and Flash, then moving on to learning about her past.  Episodes average 5 minutes and is completely animated, which I think is perfect because it allows flexibility.  If you love comics and animation you should check out this show.  Good times.

Frank Martin 2.0

Luc Besson decide to take his masterpiece and reboot it.  I was not very happy when he decided to do this, but as I then saw trailers and TV clips I was sold and was willing to check out how this new Frank Martin will do.  Ed Skrein, a fairly new actor since 2012, accepted the paton from Statham and be came The Transporter.

The Transporter Refueled was a film that you had to go in with an open mind and be prepared for something different, but not to far from the same.  Ed's gruffness fulfilled the role as Martin very well.  Joining him was Ray Stevenson (Beowolf, Thor & Divergent Series), who played Frank Martin, Sr.  He also did a great job playing a charismatic old playboy who for some reason always get caught up.  The driving skills in the film was very impressive and the fight scenes were just as amazing as with Statham.  My mind was changed and fulfilled.  This film was amazing and I recommend all who are a fan of the Transporter series and/or a fan of Luc Besson.

Movie Reviews: Jan - Aug 2015

This is a review of the movies I saw during the time frame in the title.  Since there will be a good deal of them I will try to keep them short.  And now with out further ado:

Kingsman: The Secret Service
This film starring Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Caine, I felt, look exciting before it released.  It sort of showed the kind of cheeziness that I actually love and expect from a movie like this.  It was not a spoof off of Bond or Mission Impossible, but I possessed a unique flavor I have come to love.  Having the appearance of Mark Hamill was pretty sweet as well.  The only annoyance in the film was Valentine's (Jackson) lisp.  I know it was of the character, but it was very irritating and very overplayed.  Overall the movie was great and I feel they should leave it at that meaning no sequels, but you know how it goes.  If it does well, we must make sequel.
Owner: Yes     Grade: 8/10

50 Shades Of Grey
So as you alll know this movie was hyped like a comic book or legendary science fiction film.  Everyone hoped it would live up to it, but when people saw it, the majority response was that it was slow, boring or even terrible.  We was still kind of interested so we checked it out for ourselves.  In a nutshell it was kind of predictable (as it should be), slow, sort of bland, but not terrible.  I can't tell you what they could have done to make it better.  Actually I don't think there is.  A lot of people said that they should have had a differnt cast, but I really don't think that wouls have mattered.  Even great actors wouldn't have made that movie better in my opinion.  So check it out if you want, but I'd say wait for video.

Insurgent (Divergent Series)
I had decided to continue watching this series with my wife at first because she love these kind of series like Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games & Maze Runner.  This is the second installment of the Divergent Series as the group continues on to infultrate the capital and topple the system.  The first movie kind of confused me and on and off was losing my attention, but I stuck with it.  I have only walked out of one film in my life (Knock Off w/ Jean Claude Van Damme & Rob Schnider).  I vowed to pay more attention to the sequel and try to understand the plot.  I did and I thouroughly enjoyed it. The pieces were coming together much better for me.  The action and filler was well placed.  Not much dragged on.  Makhi Phifer even got more lines.  So if you liked Divergent then you should like Insurgent.

Get Hard
Ah, Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, who would have guess how this would have gone.  It definitely went the way I expected and I still enjoyed a fair deal of it.  Both Hart and Ferrell was over the top as usual and the chemistry seemed to worked out well.  I really like Hart, but I feel his movies were not really worth a trip to the theater.  I was alright to see this one there though.  I had refused to see The Wedding Ringer with Hart and Jason Gad (like him, too) because it just didn't sell to me, but I did think it would be pretty funny.  Either way, Get Hard was a good movie.  Worth watching if you need a crazy comedy.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2
Alright.  When I saw the poster for this after seeing a movie last year, I lost it.  "Oh Hell No!", I said.  I just could believe they would make a sequel.  My wife, who like the first movie was very excited to see the second.  I reluctantly went along and saw the movie, hence the review.  It was ............ yeah ........ exactly what I expected.  Crazy slap-stick comedy.  What I expect from Kevin James as he continues to go over the top with this one.  I know, he is suppose to do that, but I could not handle it.  Loni Love was in it and she was ok playing the stereotypical black female cop.  Not I really do love James and Love, but this movie just didn't do it for me.  So my opinion is to just wait for video.   Not worth a theater visit.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron
First of all, Age Of Ultron?  Really?  That is something you would give a series or part of a series that makes that could be a season or half of a season.  Anyways, I really liked this movie.  I didn't like the mess that they bring Quicksilver just after he was in X-Men: Days of Future's Past.  I'm sure it was kind of a spit back at Fox, and it also bothered me that that he and his twin sister, Scarlet Witch are the children of Magneto, but in the Avengers they could not acknowledge that not could they call them mutants (Fox owns that right) *sigh*. The movie was good.  It kept my attention more in the filler that the first one did.  The action was about the same.  The fight between Hulk and Iron Man was great!!!  I love James Spader, but Ultron himself bored me.  I got very excited when Vision arosed.  Go Paul Bettany!!  The movie was good.  Still worth seeing in theaters.

Hot Pursuit
Ok.  I could have let this one go.  Reese Witherspoon & Sofia Vergara made me excited to see this one.  I should have known better, but at first I could not see it.  Vergara was pretty much like her character on Modern Family, except less funny.  Reese, I feel was just trying too hard.  The movie was a bit less than ok. I was seriously wondering during the film, why are we watching this.  I try to give films the benefit of the doubt, but it is what it is.  See it if you want.  I saw it for the wrong reasons.

Mad Max: Fury Road
Oh My Goodness, Oh My Goodness. Oh My Goodness!!!  This movie was way, way better than I expected.  I was not sure about this film, because I feel that reboots, remakes and continuations/sequels make me very nervous.  I heard some comments from folks mostly saying it turned out very well, but that didn't push me to see it then, but then we were at that time to see a movie and we had saw a great deal that were still out.  The only one of possible interest was Mad Max.  So we went and I am so glad we did.  This move was great.  Tom Hardy was an awesome replacement and Charlize Theron was a great addition/support.  There was drama, intensity, action, etc. and I enjoyed every minute of it.  The guy rockin' out with a guitar on a vehicle was the best.  It was crazy.  It is definitely worth seeing.

Pitch Perfect 2
Well it was good, but not as good as the first.  The performances during the film were great and Rebel Wilson, as expected was hilarious again!  Anna Kendrick's character was still pompous like before so, IMO, she never grew up.   The final showing was ok.  I expected more out of the German team, but you get what you get.  I guess it is worth seeing.

Spy
Melissa McCarthy reunited with Rose Byrne teams up with Jason Statham and Jude Law to bring us a crazy silly film by director Paul Feig.  I thouroughly enjoyed this film where an analyst is pulled in to a situation where is forced to act like a spy and does a really great job at it after all.  This cast was great to see work together.  Jason every was great as a comedic actor although he shows some of this skill in some of his earlier films.  It was good to see Melissa, Rosa and Paul back together and Jude has always been a pleasure to see work.  This is a must see especially if you enjoyed Bridesmaids and The Heat.  Check it out!

Jurassic World
I never was a huge fan of the Jurassic series like I was for Star Wars, Indiana Jones or Tarantino, but I did admire them and wanted to go see them all.  Never rushed out, but wanted to see eventually.  This flick starred Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Judy Greer and Vincent O'Dinofrio.  They also brought some of the previous cast including BD Wong from Jurassic Park.  As expected the movie was action pack and intensive.  I also followed the same pattern of the previous films.  You can pretty much guess without me spoiling.  Overall the movie was very entertaining and I would place it second in the series.  Worth checkout whether you are a fan or not.

Inside Out
This film created by John Lasseter and Pixar is a flick about feelings understanding feelings.  We start out with the birth of Riley and the feelings she develops in time.  The five feeling portrayed were Joy by Amy Poehler (SNL and Parks & Recreations), Fear by Bill Hader (SNL and Skeleton Twins), Disqust by Mindy Kaling, Anger by Lewis Black (Stand Up and The Daily Show) and Sadness by Phillis Smith.

The movies shows a lot of the aspects of the human mind.  The one that I need to yet understand is Abstract Thought.  I will need to look that up.  Another area that threw me was The Sub-conscience.  I thought it had a part in what we call second nature, but this movie showed different.  Either way, this movie was very toughing and emotional.  It seriously tug at the heart strings and has a great deal of funny scenes.  This movie was very well done and I would place it as one of my favorite Pixar films.  Highly recommend all to see.

Oh and the short film, that Pixar always shows before the major feature, was wonderful.  You will see if you haven't seen Inside Out yet.  Enjoy!

Magic Mike XXL
I know what you may think.  Why is he reviewing on a movie that not aimed towards his demographic?  Because even though if this movie wasn't for me, I (along with my wife) actually wanted to see it.  Now when going to see this film, you must of have seen the first one because believe it or not there is a story line where they had most of the cast back.  The movie performances were great IMO.  The soundtrack was very nice.  The dialog was pretty funny and at times a bit too serious (at least they try to be too serious).  That is my only negative part of the movie.  This is definitely worth seeing in theaters and to own.  The performance with Tatum and tWitch was very impressive.  Check this one out if you like.  I recommend it.

 Trainwreck
I could not believe I chose this movie over Ant-Man, that released the same day, but we did and I never got around to see Ant-Man this summer (very sad).  Was it worth it?  Well read on and determine for yourself.  This is the premiere movie for comedienne, Amy Schumer with director Judd Apatow.   Starring with her are SNL veterans, Bill Hader and Vanessa Bayer.  It did turn out to be a pretty funny movie with was goofy dialog during the first half of the film and got the typical rom-com serious, especially with Apatow, towards the end.  They surrounded themselves with a pretty impressive supporting cast including Dave Attell (Stand Up), Colin Quinn (SNL), Randall Park (Fresh Of The Boat & The Interview), Brie Larson (Community), LeBron James (NBA) and Tilda Swinton (Narnia).  Yes!  That Tilda Swinton.  How they pull her into it IDK.  It is definitely worth seeing, but only if you are knowledgeable and/or a fan of Schumer and/or Apatow.  So have you determined if I thought it was worth it?  Let's just say, I can't believe I chose this movie over Ant-Man and I then never got around to seeing Ant-Man for the remaining of the summer.

Pixels
This Adam Sandler film was not one for everyone.  Only for the major 1980s video game geeks like myself.  This film to me will not fall in to the list of bad Sandler films and there are a good amount of them.  This was a fun flick and it was kind of easy to point out the various games portayed in the movie.  There is not much to say about the film.  My only angst about it is that they really rushed in to the invasion, but it was probably good that he did because otherwise the film would have dragged on.  Check out this movie even if you either don't like Sandler or video games.  You just might like it.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
Number four of the incredible franchise starring Tom Cruise and Ving Rhames.  This time they are going after an infamous group called the Syndicate, who's seems to always have a hand up on the IMF.  like the previous films it has some amazing action and intense dialog.  Hunt continues his intense running and motorcycling this time on a curving cliff.  Ving is seriously is looking old, but still loves him in this series.  Go Luther!  There is nothing more to talk about this movie, but it will definitely keep your attention.

Straight Outta Compton
Alright!  This was an amazing film.  Showing you the life of N.W.A. featuring Dr. Dre, Ice Cube & Eazy-E.  It starred a couple of new young actors supported by Paul Giamatti.  Corey Hawkins was a student of Julliard and was being held by his agent and manager until they were to find the perfect role for him to start his acting career.  That came with this movie and he did a phenomenal job as Andre "Dr. Dre Young.  Hawkins was trained in the DJ/Producing ways by Dr. Dre himself.  Jason Mitchell was just a young man coming up in the rough streets of New Orleans, but was discovered and was highly recommended to become Eric "Eazy-E" Wright.  He was taken under the wing of WC of Westside Connection and performed very well as the pusher become rapper.  And finally O'Shea Jackson, Jr., had the distinct pleasure to portray his genius father Ice Cube in the film and he was amazing.  Ice Cube said that he was very hard on his son and he had to work hard from the ground up to earn this role.  She he didn't just get it because of daddy, but it may have helped somewhat.  The other two actors who finished out N.W.A., Neil Brown, Jr. (DJ Yella) and Aldis Hodge (MC Ren) also did a great job in their roles.  This is definitely a film to see, especially by fan of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and/or N.W.A. as a whole.  It is an amazing experience or reliving.  Bringing in the great F. Gary Gray to direct was absolutely a no brainer.  I could not have thought of anyone else to do this.  Check it out.  Great Biopic.

YouTube Show: Honest Trailers

Okay.  Meet the ultimate collaborator of YouTube entertainment, Jon Bailey as he shows you his main gig with the channel Screen Junkies call Honest Trailers.  I call him a collaborator because he has worked with the likes of; Smosh Games, Cinema Sins, Brotherhood Woodshop and How It Should Have Ended (HISHE).  He also has his own channel where he does short review videos in what he calls his epic voice.  Yes, he does have a good movie trailer voice, but................ok.  Anyways, some of his best works is on Honest Trailers that he does for both Screen Junkies and Smosh Games.  He is very funny doing these especially when he says, "BEEEEWWWWBS".  Que my wife shaking her head.

It is pretty much the only thing I watch on Smosh Games and Screen Junkies because the rest of their work is either way to long (around an hour or so) or are kind of annoying, especially when their main host is, well, hosting.  The subject is interesting, but then I just stop their.  I tried, but no.  I digress.

Check out the Honest Trailer below and then check out the others that I'm sure are on playlists at Screen Junkies or Smosh Games.  Or you can go to my channels' playlist at CocoaVision or Becauseimwil.

Enjoy

YouTube Empire: Cinema Sins

Ah, Cinema Sins.  This site had turned into one my all-time favorite channels to watch.  It is hilarious to watch and may open your eyes to a point that a movie you used to love very much may now annoy you to the point of anger.  Now that is a quote (not verbatim) from my wife, but I don't fully agree.  It does open my eyes to something I may have missed, but it actually doesn't change how I felt about the film.

The host, Jeremy is a bit annoying simply because I feel he has a holier than thou complex.  No one knows more than Jeremy in the entertainment business or that is how I see him from his voice and mannerisms.  He has a personal channel where he does Q&A's, Dear Hollywood Letters, and Preview/Reviews of movies.  He has now taken up the watch me while I game concept, which I have a separate blog about that coming soon.  He also has 3 other channels in his arsenal; Music Video Sins, Brand Sins (Hosted by Bobby talking about companies) and Couch Tomato (don't know the name of the host, where he compares why 2 movies are or are not the same).

All this stuff is entertaining, but at times could be as equally annoying.  I am drawn to it though and like I said, it is among my all-time favorite YouTube channels (I know I started off singular and now plural.  I am talking about his empire ya'll).

Below is one of his movie sins, which I found hilarious and I haven't seen the film yet.  BTW, make sure you see the film before seeing the sins of the film.  SPOILERS!!!!!  It has a sins counter, timer and gives you a sentence at the end.

Enjoy.

It's Been A While

It has been about more than 20 years since I went to my first concert with my roommate Sherina at the time.  The headliners were New Edition with the opening group 702.  This was in Milwaukee, WI at the Bradley Center and it was for my roommate's birthday.  We collected some swag before we left that looks like so:

I cannot wear it now, but hopefully if I lose enough weight, I will sport it someday.  Anyways, It was a great concert, but before and after that, I still rather not attend concerts because I find them very overwhelming.

More than a decade later I attended a fundraiser event that featured a concert towards the end.  The featured act were the Pointer Sisters.  Like New Edition, I grew up with this group and loved most of their songs.  This was the first concert that I ended up singing along and acting silly.  It was a lot of fun.  I had a blast.  Neutron Dance, Slow Hand and even Jump was performed by these ladies and it was great.  I thank my wife very much for bringing me to that event.

Almost another decade later, in last August 2015 I attended my third concert at the Gexa Engery Pavilion in Dallas, TX.  It featured Kelly Clarkson with Pentatonix, Eric Hutchinson and Abi Ann.  I know the last two (or three) seemed unfamiliar, but they were all great.  I won't go into detail on them, but they are good to check out via Google, Spotify, Apple Music, etc.

Of course, Kelly Clarkson's set was the best and she was hilarious in between songs.  From blaming being emotional on her being knocked up to letting the audience know that she was singing one of her favorite songs and if we didn't like it, suck it (or something like that).  She was just non-stop.  I has stopped buying CDs and even slowed down in downloading.  It's pretty much streaming music for me and I do it on Spotify.  I plan to check out all the albums of the opening acts and Kelly's newest release.

After the concert I told my wife that I would like to attend future concerts there, but I will be very selective on who.  Sorry heavy metal, rock or gangsta rap.  I guess I am coming more out of my shell some more.  I just wanted to share with you my concert experiences and I plan to see more.

YouTube Channel: First Person

This is an interesting series from PBS Digital Studios.  It is an entrance into the world learning about gender, sexuality and the queer community.  The videos are not really long averaging 6 minutes and you learn a great deal in a short period of time.  Check out the trailer below:
